New Beccs mens 2s were pipped at the post by Folkestone in the final game of the season and, having topped the league for most of the season, finished second to the Kent coast side. New Beccs, having played their last league game before Easter, were three points and six goals ahead of Folkestone as Folkestone pushed back in their final game of the season at Old Willies.  Folkestone went two goals up in a space of minutes but Old Willies held them to 3-0 at half time.  Old Wllies clearly hadn't read our website plea for robust defending because the goals started flying in in the second period. To be fair to them, Folkestone had made three substitutions at half time, which made all the difference and Old Willies' youngsters at the back did their best against some good players. At the end of the game, Old Willies  players were heard to comment that they thought the half time subs were above this league's standard but that can only be speculation on their part surely?  Anyway, Folkestone won 8-1, thus finishing ahead of New Beccs by a single goal. Bad luck boys.

One final thought, 2s goalie Kempy was reflecting on an away fixture at Herne bay when he was discussing half time tactics - with New Beccs 5-0 up against a young side, it was suggested by one member of the team that the 2s should take it easy in the second half. Kempy's response was: "This league could very well come down to goal difference; do you think Folkestone will be taking it easy?"
