Club History

New Beccehamian Hockey Club

New Beccehamian Hockey Club was formed in 1999 with the merger of Lloyds Bank H.C. and Old Beccehamian H.C. The Lloyds Bank site was being sold and the hockey club needed to find another place to play, and with Old Becc’s lack of players, the merger seemed the best option. In 2002, they were also joined by NatWest Bank H.C.

Lloyds Bank Hockey Club

Lloyds Bank Hockey Club was formed in 1922 when the Bank opened its Sports Club at Copers Cope Road in Beckenham. The former club president, Len Spong was an England trialist in the 1940's and captained the 1st XI and the United Bank’s team for many years.

The club visited festivals for many decades, including 60 years at Folkstone and was proud to have attended up to four festivals each Easter period. The club also toured abroad, and over the years went to Holland, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Spain, and even Barbados in 2000!

In 1972, the club celebrated its 50th anniversary with a festival including a number of Premier, International and UK sides, with the culmination being a match against a President's XI including many international players. The club’s 75th anniversary was celebrated in 1997 with a grand ball.

Each summer, the club organised its Battam’s Cup and Tyrrell Plate competition. In the past over 100 teams of Bank staff had entered, with it being described in the national press as the largest mixed hockey tournament in the world.
