Report:
A fantastic game of hockey played at a far higher standard than you would normally find in this division thanks to the Bromley campanologists (ringers) fielding some unfamiliar faces and the mighty New Beccs matching them in every dept.
The entire game was virtually end to end stuff with our engine room (Pete Slater) being more than a match for the experienced oppo, our youngsters made life difficult for the Bromley defence and on another day and with a little bit more experience we would have prevailed.
Nil - Nil at half time and we were giving as good as we got, with the defence holding strong and counter attacking courtesy of Andy Ram, John Mayes and Rhino Beard, unfortunately a collision in our back four enabled the Bromley forwards to
scramble a lucky goal.
This however made us up the tempo and the introduction of George led to an excellent move involving Rhino, Andy Ram and
George picked his spot and buried the ball in the goal.
The last 15minutes was 70/30 in our favour and we could have won it with more luck but another technical error at the back led to another lucky goal with the ball trickling over the line as Pete Watt
riggled eel like on the goal line.
The Bromley skipper breathed a sigh of relief at the final whistle as they expected to win this easily - this performance was a great credit to New Beccs and typifies the great team spirit running through the team and
I'm sure our younger players took far more from this game than just the result.
Proper hockey played at a high tempo with some excellent and solid performances from ALL our players.
John Mayes gets the vote this week though as he performed brilliantly on both the right and left midfield - long may it continue. |
