Report:
On paper this was a very strong side to take down to play high-flying Old Bordenians. However, all great plans come to nothing when the M25 decides to throw a wobbly. We had 7 players which then increased to 9 just before the start.
We defended well and looked quite secure. We also took the game to them, with the lone Spencer up front creating a few problems. Finally Mr Darley and Mr Grey turned up and with 11 players on the field we started to play with more confidence. The hockey wasn't pretty though, with the ball being given away quite frequently, and a few players mentally still sitting in a traffic jam.
Nil nil at half time and a chance to re-group and change to a more familiar 4-4-2 formation. We came out strong and should have scored some goals - particularly from a string of short corners. However, we didn't, and then the inevitable happened as they took advantage of a defensive lapse down our left to snatch a goal.
At this stage Kevin, playing against his old club, stepped up the pace and through will-power we managed to snatch a goal through Paddy.
It was frustrating. Bords are a good side but this team should have beaten them. It was one of those days.
It was worse for Keith Meikle who was due to umpire us - but eventually got there 15 minutes before the end. Martin Telling also eventually got there, but he was in such a poor frame of mind that, seeing we had 11 on the field, he turned around and went straight back home again.
