Report:
The first half was played at a very leisurely pace with New Beccs
nursing a number of injuries and a particularly debilitating hang-over
in my case. Having almost missed the ball with my first attempt at a
penalty corner strike, the imposing figure of Dan Bishop was drafted
into action. Now Dan hits the ball as hard as anyone I've ever played
with, but occasionally he hits it up in the air - which is scary if you
are breaking up the ring (as Keith can attest) which is why we keep him
in reserve for our free hits. However, he can be uninhibited at penalty
corners, and at the second attempt he slotted away a beauty.
Unfortunately we then let them get on back - 1-1 at half time. The
second half we stepped things up considerably. The good thing about the
Threes is that we have two mid-field generals, and with Richard injured
Mark Linzey was really dominant and enjoying himself at centre half. He
is as fit as he has been for some years and it was good to see him using
his full array of skills. Also in great from was Andrew Long on the
left, who combined very well with Ray. On this form Andrew would be a
real asset to the Ones.
But most of our zip in the second half actually came from Martin
Telling who ran tirelessly and got into some great positions. He also
tried to pass the ball a few times. Not all the passes came off, but
it's the thought that counts, and his team mates were most appreciative.
He scored a well earned goal.
Well done guys. |
